Ranger Camp

Barley led the group into the camp and brought the survivors to Coventry. "These two were the only ones who we know of escaped the castle." Barley gestured toward Chivel and Azrael. Coventry nodded to the survivors. "You are welcome to make your stay here, but I'd advise you to seek some place else for permanent stay."

Chivel stuck out her hand at Coventry. "Chivel Ojiir, I was Alister's ranger." As she introduced herself, Chivel's eyes scanned the camp. There were tents set up around the clearing but nothing really looked permanent. I wonder if they are moving out to someplace else soon. Chivel turned her attention back to Coventry. "We thank you for your hospitality."

"Alright then." Chivel frowned a little then began to walk towards the edge of the camp. After a second she realized Azrael wasn't following her. Something inside her made her turn around and return to where Barley and Azrael were standing. "I'm gonna pitch a tent over there." She pointed to a small grove a ways away where there was only one other tent. "Coming, Azrael?" She was nonchalant about asking but she hoped that he would follow.

Azrael turned and sighed. "Yes, mother." He responded mockingly. He followed her reluctantly to the area. He helped Chivel pitch the tent, occasionally goofing off, slowing their progress. "Do we have to sleep in the same tent?"

Barley was on edge, deep in his stomach he felt if Hadrian's forces wandered into the forest and found the encampment they would have little chance of survival. "What should we do if Hadrian's forces find us?" He asked Coventry.
Coventry replied. "I have no fears, we are well hidden, if we are found some of us will fight while others escape."
Barley nodded grimly and walked away from Coventry toward his tent in the area where Chivel and Azrael pitched a tent.

"Have you got a tent packed with you? I've only got the one I keep on Cab." She glanced over to where Cab had wandered into the clearing. He was grazing calmly. "You are welcome to sleep on the open grass if you want to though."

Chivel chuckled a little then looked up from the tent as the ranger from earlier approached. She didn't know if she liked this ranger but at least he had taken them to Coventry. The ranger stood up and chuckled again. "So," she said "are you rangers allowed to tell people your names?"

Azrael glanced at the ground and back at Chivel's tent. "Why can't I sleep in there?" He pointed at the nearby tent. But noticed the ranger from before coming toward them and assumed that was his tent. "Whatever, I'll just find some where else." He turned and walked into the forest. leaving Chivel and the ranger. Not going too far, he stays within view of the clearing. Finding a tree with a large split in the side. He throws together a make shift hut in the tree and goes to bed for the night.

Barley stepped into the clearing in time to see Azrael leave. "Usually we don't tell strangers our names." He chuckled to himself. " But we have exceptions for survivors, the names Barley... Barley Baneshine, and i think your name is Chivel, correct?"

Chivel frowned as Azrael walked away. I guess he doesn't take humor lightly. The ranger turned back to Barley and smiled. "Yes thats right." Chivel paused awkwardly and shifted her weight. "Hmm, is that your tent over there?" She motioned lamely towards the other tent and sighed inwardly. I don't socialize enough.."Or did you uh have some questions or something? 'Cuz I didn't even get into the castle before the battle was over." Chivel mentally berated herself for going on so long. She had only been assigned to the Hills for nine months and had made no friends in that time. Needless to say her social skills needed much work.

"No, I don't have any questions." Barley watched Azrael make his shelter. "It's late, I'm gonna get some rest." Barley entered his tent and fell asleep.

Alrighty then. Chivel frowned as Barley walked away and then shook her head. In the morning I will head for Sparrow Castle. The ranger quickly lit a small fire and went to sleep in her tent.

Barley woke to a fellow ranger shaking him and yelling.

"Were under attack!" He yelled at Barley and pointed outside.

Barley jumped to his feet and dressed and grabbed his gear. He burst out of his tent looked up at the main camp and saw rangers fighting Hadrian's troops. Barley dashed to Chivel's tent, rushed inside and tried to wake her.

Azrael woke up from the commotion in the ranger camp. He climbed to his feet he yawned and stretched while watching the action in the camp. As he casually walked toward Chivel's tent he saw Barley dash by.

Chivel heard the commotion and the opening flap on her tent swished. In one quick movement she was up on her knees and her knife was out in front of her. One of Hadrian's men, in full armor, came at her without hesitation. Chivel leaned to the side, barely dodging a stabbing attack from the man; with her left hand she caught his sword wielding wrist and held tight. Chivels right arm thrust forward with all the strength she could gather from such tight quarters and she heard a sound comparable to a crunch as her knife went through the man's heart plate. Just as she was shoving him off of her, Barley burst into her tent shouting about the attack. "Shut up and get this bulk off me!" Her attacker lay dead on top of her and with his armor he was too much for her to move alone.

Barley moved quickly and pulled the dead weight off of Chivel. "You and the boy need to get out of here, fast!" He said the words quickly and rushed outside into the fray. Coventry rushed up to Barley. "You will escort the girl and the boy away from here, do you hear me?"

Barley replied. "I need to stay and help fight!"

"No, I gave you an order." Coventry pushed Barley away from the fighting. Barley nodded and dashed down the hill to Chivel and Azrael. "We need to get away from here."

Chivel threw a few knives into the fray as she exited her tent. You gotta be kidding me. She watched as Azrael nonchalantly walked over to where she was standing. Barley yelled something to her and then dashed away but she wasn't sure what. Chivel whistled to Cab and her horse came galloping over. "Get on my horse!" She yelled at Azrael as Barley came sprinting down a nearby hill.

"We need to get away from here."

"I agree!" Chivel leapt onto Cab and extended her arm for Barley.

Barley gripped Chivel's arm and climbed up onto the horse's back.

Azrael sighed he really didn't want to ride on that horse with that many people on it. He sighed again and climbed on the horse.

"Let's go." Barley said to Chivel as they rode away from the fighting.
